Protecting Your Smile
If you’re flossing every day, and making sure you brush your teeth at least two times a day, you’re already doing a great job of maintaining the health of your smile. But it’s still important to visit the dentist regularly so that we can help you maintain your overall oral health and work to prevent any potential problems.
Regular oral examinations and routine cleanings are just a few of the general care services offered at our practice. To help keep your teeth and gums healthy, we can recommend and provide hygiene services in conjunction with other dental services. This allows for a more cohesive and thorough dental experience.
Oral Examinations
Our dentists recommend regular oral exams be scheduled twice a year. This allows us to identify any potential oral health issues at the earliest signs and make a plan to treat them accordingly.
During your exam, your dentist will take a close look at the hard and soft structures of your mouth including, your teeth, gums and jaw. They will also evaluate the alignment of your teeth and your bite. Exams may also include dental X-rays and other diagnostic procedures.
Keep Up With Oral Hygiene at Home
Maintaining a daily at-home oral hygiene routine is crucial for the long-term health of your smile. Keep your teeth and gums healthy by brushing twice daily for two minutes each time, and flossing at least once a day.
Dental Hygiene & Teeth Cleaning
Your dental hygienist will perform a deep cleaning of your teeth and gums to prevent and treat disease.
To begin, they will use a scaler to remove any tartar and plaque build-up. Next, they will use a polisher and coarse toothpaste to remove any leftover stains or plaque, followed by a thorough flossing.
During this visit, the hygienist will also offer tips for at-home oral hygiene as well as basic nutritional advice such as which foods to avoid to minimize cavities.
Fluoride Treatment
When you or your child visit the dentist for a hygiene appointment, fluoride treatment will be administered to help protect your teeth against cavities. Fluoride is a natural mineral that can help rebuild the minerals in your tooth enamel to prevent or reverse tooth decay.
In some cases, our dentists may also recommend this treatment as a preventive measure for adults who are at a high risk of tooth decay.
For our younger patients, we offer fluoride in a variety of flavours from chocolate to grape to suit their preferences.
